Additional specialist services through collaboration

TAHMU has a number of external consultants who practise within our hospital. Not only does this give our team the opportunity to work with additional specialists, but we are also able to offer additional specialist services to clients and their pets.

Dermatology services at The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University (TAHMU) are provided by Dr Mandy Burrows, Associate Professor in Small Animal Medicine (Dermatology) and Animal Dermatology Clinic-Perth (ADC).

Dr Burrows is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) in Veterinary Dermatology and a registered specialist in veterinary dermatology. She has over 30 years of experience working in university and clinical practice and teaching and has trained veterinary dermatologists working in veterinary specialty practice in Western Australia.

Mandy has extensive experience with clinical dermatology in companion animals and the Animal Dermatology Clinic offers cutting-edge equipment and technology. Our dermatology services include:

  • Intradermal allergy testing and immunotherapy for pollen, house dust mite allergy
  • Video otoscopy for external and middle ear conditions
  • In-house biopsy services for histopathology
  • C02 laser surgery
  • Equine dermatology
  • Bee and wasp venom testing and venom immunotherapy
  • BAER hearing testing for deafness

Our dermatology clinic at Murdoch has a strong connection with TAHMU and works in conjunction with specialists from the small and large animal medicine and surgery teams as well as anaesthesia, primary care and emergency services. It is this collaboration between veterinary specialists that is our point of difference. We work together to reach the best outcome for both owners and their pets. The goal of ADC is to ensure that each and every pet lives a life free of chronic skin and allergy conditions.

Vet Imaging Specialists (VIS) are a team comprising Veterinary Radiologist Dr Nerissa Stander, dedicated veterinary professionals and administrative staff. They offer outpatient diagnostic imaging services by referral for small animals, including exotic pets with a particular focus on outpatient abdominal ultrasonography and echocardiography. VIS partner with The Animal Hospital to offer ultrasonography as well as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and radiographic interpretation services.
