How Murdoch's academics are building a brighter future: Dr Shikha Anirban

This is a shared journey that welcomes anyone who wants to make the world a better place. Meet Dr Shikha Anirban from Murdoch’s School of Information Technology.

Technology is a place where revolutionary ideas happen.

It has fundamentally changed the way we live, work and socialise as a community and will undoubtedly continue to evolve and impact our lives in the future. It is therefore imperative that the next generation are able to navigate this digital landscape.

“As a teacher, I focus on improving the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities of the students so that they can be confident enough to embrace any future technological challenges in this dynamic world,” says Information Technology (IT) Lecturer, Dr Anirban.

We, [at the School of IT] are working together to inspire and nurture students, fostering a generation that will contribute to a brighter, technologically advanced future.”

An educator with 13 years tertiary teaching experience, Dr Anirban discovered her passion for teaching and research in Bangladesh, before moving to study her PhD in Australia, to further enhance her experience. During her time studying she continued her passion of educating through tutoring. This led her to jump on an opportunity to teach as a full-time lecturer at Murdoch University in 2024.

“I am delighted to be part of the team at the School of IT.”

For Dr Anirban, Murdoch University’s Strategy Ngala Kwop Biddi, Building a Brighter Future Together, is embodied in the team spirit found at Murdoch and encapsulated in both the teaching and research.

“With the continual advancement of technology, the volume of data generated daily is increasing rapidly,” says Dr Anirban.

My research aims to leverage this data to enhance the efficiency of various processing algorithms, compress data to minimise storage costs, and analyse them to inform future decisions across diverse applications.”

At Murdoch University, we are focused on changing lives and society for the better through accessible education and research, contributing to the solution of societal and environmental challenges and providing an inclusive, caring community in which everyone can realise their potential.

We are on a shared journey to a brighter future.
