Many spaces within Boola Katitjin are suitable for events, business and industry engagement, and collaboration with research partners.

University events

Murdoch University staff can book spaces within Boola Katitjin for University events, using Resource Booker. Resource Booker allows you to browse space availability, and to make a request to book a space for events such as extracurricular activities, student engagement and industry partnerships. The booking request will ask for information about your event, to assist Facilities Management in supporting you.  

Learning spaces are prioritised for timetabled teaching, confirmed twice a year. Once the timetable is confirmed, remaining availability can be browsed in Resource Booker.

Workshops, conferences, and community events

Selected spaces in Boola Katitjin can be booked for workshops, conferences, and community events.

Creative Workshop

The Creative Workshop Space is positioned beside the Digital Immersive Learning space and available for ad-hoc bookings, including school and industry engagement events. The Creative Workshop is a highly flexible use space designed for a variety of uses, such as pitch events, workshops, lunch and learn, events and focused work.

Intended for industry engagements, student innovation and school presentations, both facilitators and participants can bring devices and connect using wireless technology to the computer screens fitted on the collaboration booths and the group work desks.

Collaborative Learning Space

Assigned for learning and teaching, the two large format Collaborative Learning Spaces on Level 4 feature easily moved and arranged furniture that allow for a range of event configurations. These spaces can seat 120 persons at tables, and feature display screen walls for the presentation of large-format audio-visual materials. 

The space to the south of Boola Katitjin features windows from the floor to the vaulted ceiling, with views across campus to Beeliar Wetlands. A deck provides outdoor seating and makes for a delightful post-event catering position.

To the north, the Collaborative Learning Space overlooks the Northern Plaza and the feature timber roof, with floor to vaulted ceiling windows, and technology-enabled for large format audio-visual presentations.

Welcome Space

The Welcome Space, adjacent to the Arrival Hall on Level 1, features both tiered seating that overlooks a presenter space, and provides optimal viewing of the Digital Ribbon. A Presenter Podium is available to move into the space, and provides similar audio-visual controls found in learning spaces. Any of the 18 screens on the Digital Ribbon can be selected to deliver your presentation, providing flexibility in the configuration of your event. You can even bring your own device to deliver audio and visual presentations. 

The Welcome Space has capacity for 220 people in cocktail mode, with overflow to the Southern Courtyard, and 70 people seated in the tiered seating arrangement. 

Other spaces available for hire include the:

  • Collaborative Learning Space on Level 4, Room 4.003
  • Northern Plaza, where a Presenter Podium can be used to deliver audio-visual presentations on the large welcome display,
  • Southern Forecourt amongst the native gardens and Banksia Court which offers a fresh open-air venue, and
  • Creative Workshop within the Digital Hub.

Catering at Boola Katitjin  

No food or drink is to be consumed in learning spaces when used for teaching and learning events, as is standard across campus.  

Catering can be set up in foyers, breezeways and the Student Portal tables, as well as in dedicated event spaces. Boola Katitjin offers many break out spaces that are suitable for catering. Indicate your need for catering when you book via Resource Booker (Staff) or when making your booking inquiry (Community).
