We’re living in the digital age and have come to rely on our mobile devices more than ever. However, at what environmental cost?

In this seminar, Professor Toby Miller discusses why claims that smartphones will connect everyone, end poverty, produce green economies and transcend restrictive social norms are fundamentally flawed.

“Quite apart from the fact that it simply reiterates the promises made in the past for telephony, radio, cinema, aviation, and television, it neglects the immense environmental impact generated from the production, use, and disposal of cell phones, tablets, TVs, and laptops,” Professor Miller said.
