Photographers create images that define our world!

Studying Photography at Murdoch University will equip you with industry skills and aesthetic knowledge to create powerful and effective images for a range of audiences and genres.

You will experience making photographs for commercial, artistic and editorial purposes, and also gain career skills related to freelancing and consulting to ensure that you are industry ready.

Practice industry standards and develop a personal style

As a Photography student, you will build a professional portfolio with guidance from award-winning photographers, industry professionals and researchers.

As well as learning about best industry practices, you will be supported to develop your personal style and have a chance to showcase your work throughout your degree, such as in the Creative Media Showcase, and on the Northbridge Piazza and Forrest Place mega screens.

What to expect when you study Photography

You will learn through a wide range of project-based activities to develop your practical and technical skills, such as advanced camera technique, lighting skills in both the studio and on location, workflow management, image editing, and printing to a professional standard.

Our hands-on program also integrates theory with practice to develop visual literacy and deepen understanding of the social, cultural, and ethical implications of image making. In the third year, you will be exposed to ‘real world’ experiences working on client briefs and have the possibility for a professional industry placement.
