Murdoch Veterinary School Rises in Global Rankings
We’re proud to share that Murdoch University’s School of Veterinary Medicine has climbed to #39 in the world in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject for Veterinary Science. This marks a continued upward trend from #44 in 2024 and the 51–70 band in 2023, reflecting the school’s growing global reputation and academic excellence
The QS World University Rankings by Subject are one of the most respected global benchmarks for academic performance. They assess universities across four key metrics:
- Academic Reputation: Based on a global survey of academics, this measures perceived teaching and research quality.
- Employer Reputation: Gauges how institutions are viewed by employers worldwide, particularly in terms of graduate preparedness.
- Research Citations per Paper: Reflects the impact and quality of research output.
- H-index: Measures both the productivity and citation impact of the published work of a scientist or scholar.
While research metrics are very important, teaching quality plays a critical role in shaping both academic and employer reputation scores. High-quality teaching leads to better student outcomes, stronger alumni networks, and greater visibility in the academic community—all of which contribute to improved rankings. At Murdoch, this is reflected in consistently strong student satisfaction scores and top-tier performance in national surveys, such as the QILT surveys.
This ranking milestone is more than a number—it’s a reflection of our shared commitment to excellence in veterinary education and a signal of the exciting future ahead for the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University.
