Baloo’s Big Day Out at Boola Katitjin

First horse visit in Boola Katitjin various images

Dr. Annett Annandale and Dr. Karina Jones recently took “Baloo,” the School of Veterinary Medicine’s skills lab horse, on a scenic campus walk to teach in Boola Katitjin—Murdoch University's acclaimed academic building.

Since Baloo was too large for the lifts, he took the long road to Level 3 in Boola Katitjin. Along the way, he drew smiles and cheers from the sushi shop crew and plenty of curious glances, thanks to his very noisy little wheels!

Baloo was a key part of the equine gastrointestinal tract (GIT) workshop for second-year DVM students, helping them tackle a complex and often challenging topic. For the first time, SVM introduced its in-house built, colour-coded, life-sized equine GIT model to complement the traditional workshop setup—making this likely the first horse to ever visit Boola Katitjin! Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive: they loved it. A huge thank you to the team for bringing creativity and energy to veterinary education.
