Project leader: Dr Megan Paull, Director of Postgraduate Research and a senior lecturer in the Murdoch University School of Management and Governance. Megan has been associated with research in the volunteering field since the early 1990s. She completed a Research Masters on managing poor performance by volunteers, and a PhD on managing older volunteers. She chairs the volunteering research committee at Volunteering Western Australia. Megan teaches in the postgraduate business programs at Murdoch University in the areas of nonprofit management, organizational behaviour and business research methods. Megan’s research interests include volunteering, nonprofit governance and management, organizational behavior including bullying and other negative behaviours, and she is also involved in the scholarship of university teaching. Megan is a co-director of the Centre for Responsible Citizenship and Sustainability in the School of Management and Governance at Murdoch University.

Dr Debbie Haski-Leventhal is an Associate Professor in Management at Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGS), the faculty leader of Corporate Citizenship and the Director of Masters of Social Entrepreneurship. Her areas of expertise are volunteerism, CSR, Business and peace and academic social responsibility. She is the editor of the Journal Business, Peace and Sustainable Development. Associate Prof. Haski-Leventhal was a consultant for United Nations Volunteers and co-wrote the State of the World Volunteerism Report. She has published widely on different aspects of volunteerism and she has submitted a briefing paper on volunteering and social inclusion to the Commonwealth Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. She wrote several articles on service learning, including international comparisons on the impact of service learning. She further served on the advisory board of MQ service learning program (PACE) and helps to develop their research strategy.

Dr Kirsten Holmes is an Associate Professor in the School of Marketing at Curtin University.  She completed her PhD on museum volunteering at the University of Leeds in 2003 and lectured at the Universities of Sheffield and Surrey in the UK, before moving to Curtin University in 2007. Kirsten has researched and published extensively in the area of volunteering and specifically on student volunteering both in Australia and the UK.  Kirsten has excellent collaborative links both nationally and internationally in the field of volunteering and currently leads an ARC Linkage project on growing volunteer participation in Australia. She also has a history of working with Curtin Volunteers both on research projects and in an advisory capacity.

Dr Maryam Omari is an Associate Professor in the School of Business at Edith Cowan University. She is currently on the Board of ConnectGroups and the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM); a member of the WA Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) State Council; the WA representative on the AHRI Research Advisory Panel (RAP); the Chair of the International Management Stream of the ANZAM annual conference; and a Judge for the annual Telstra Business Awards.

Maryam has 17 years of human resources experience, with the last seven at an Executive level as an HR Manager. She has worked in various HR capacities including: training and development, recruitment and selection, coordination of graduate programs, organisational development, program evaluation, project management and strategic planning.

Maryam has significant experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of Executive Education and Management Development programs.  Her research interests lie in workplace bullying, cross cultural management, quality of worklife issues, ethology and job readiness of graduates.  Maryam has taught Human Resource Management, International Business and Management. She has lived, studied and worked in the Middle East, U.K and U.S.A

Dr Susan Young is lecturer in the Discipline of Social Work and Social Policy, School of Population Health, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Western Australia and Post Graduate Research Coordinator for the School of Population Health.  She is a member of the Erasmus Mundus European Masters of Family and Child Social Work programme and has research linkages with social work academics in Norway and Aotearoa new Zealand. She was a Project Team member of the recently completed OLT funded project, Getting it right: creating partnerships for change. Integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges in the social work curriculum’, with partners Curtin University, Australian Catholic University, University of New South Wales, and NSW Health.

Previous projects include evaluations of Remote Community Child Protection Workers, Full Service Schools, and Communities for Children projects, all of which have service learning and/or volunteer elements in their service delivery. She was Chair of Volunteering Western Australia (VWA) (2007-2009) and a Board member (2004-2006).  She currently sits on the Independent Public School Board of Neerigen Brook Primary School.

Dr Rowena Scott teaches science education at Curtin University with particular interest in sustainability and engagement through mutually beneficial partnerships. She has been an active member of the Tertiary Community Engagement Committee with Volunteering WA and involved in the Volunteering to Learn OLT grant from its initial idea stage. Dr Judith MacCallum is Associate Professor in Educational Psychology at Murdoch University. She was Dean of the School of Education 2009-2013.  Judith’s research and teaching expertise lies in the areas of motivation change, collaborative learning, mentoring and leadership development, and combining quantitative and qualitative social research methodologies. She has a wide range of experience working with people in schools, tertiary settings and community organisations. Since 1999 Judith has worked on national research and development projects both as project leader and a project member. Recent projects, such as Community Building through Intergenerational Exchange Programs and National Review of School Music Education have revolved around the development of good practice models from interview and case study data. Her 2007 publication, Mentoring: the Guide, provides schools with an evidence-based guide to developing quality mentoring programs. Judith has a long record of  involvement in projects to improve the quality of teaching and learning, beginning with a CAUT Grant in 1995 to develop a video to facilitate university students to work effectively in groups. Involvement in these activities has also lead to Judith developing networks with policy makers, educators and researchers across Australia and internationally.
