What kind of career can you have in veterinary medicine?
Let’s take a look at some popular careers.
- Veterinary clinician. Work in private practice in a small city clinic or out in the country. Even in private practice the range of experiences you might have vary. For example, you may find yourself treating household pets like cats and dogs, farm animals and livestock, or even race horses.
- Industry consultant. Work in agriculture, equestrian sport, animal welfare, or animal behaviour. You might find yourself working in the pet food industry or livestock industries, safeguarding the quality of life of animals. You may also find yourself in the pharmaceutical industry, working on the research and development of new drugs.
- Government veterinarian. Work in biosecurity, food security, or herd disease and management. Government veterinarians can find themselves in the field or in laboratories, working in Australia or overseas.
- Researcher. Work in all aspects related to animal health and welfare, including animal models of disease. You might find yourself making advances in veterinary medicine and becoming an expert in a field like parasitology or pathology.
