Interested in a rewarding career in health? Consider a chiropractic degree at Murdoch.

Are you interested in understanding how people’s bodies move, providing pain relief for musculoskeletal injuries or educating people on better health?

Why not consider a career pathway as a chiropractor where you will support patients by treating injuries and providing healthier lifestyle options?

What does a chiropractor do?

Chiropractors don’t just treat back pain – they help improve the wellbeing of the entire human body. Day-to-day work sees chiropractors meet with clients, diagnose injuries and provide management for skeletal and muscular problems.

They might help a patient suffering from headaches stemming from issues with the jaw; someone experiencing a painful hip; or a patient presenting with symptoms related to the sciatic nerve. The end goal is to ensure that overall patient health is enhanced by managing their condition and minimising the likelihood of re-injury through a tailored plan.

What skills would help a career as a chiropractor?

Chiropractors are compassionate individuals with a genuine passion for solving health problems. As a chiropractor, you enjoy learning about the human body and are a good listener, as well as harness skills in:

  • Problem solving: From one day to the next, you don’t know what a new patient concern or injury might be. It’ll be up to you to make the best decisions to treat patients’ problems or manage pre-existing conditions.
  • Professional ethics: You will be required to build strong interpersonal relationships and trust with your patients. Injured or unwell clients require meaningful connections and truthful answers from their chiropractor.
  • Effective communication: As a chiropractor, you’ll work closely with patients to understand their concerns, carefully diagnose and clearly explain the proposed plan of care.
  • Attention to detail: Chiropractors are responsible for analysing patient problems and tailoring treatment based on their needs. Being meticulous is critical so additional injury and stress is evaded.

What makes chiropractic a career for me?

There are a few common reasons why people pursue a career as a chiropractor:

  1. You can become a business owner. Ever dreamt about owning your own business? You could control your own practice and manage your own hours.
  2. There is professional freedom. Want to focus on a certain field? Choose from practices that focus on family care or speciality areas including sport, education, research or paediatrics.
  3. You can make a difference. Chiropractic healthcare is a conservative and non-invasive approach to healthcare. Chiropractors aim to improve their patient’s quality of life by providing therapeutic exercise, lifestyle counselling, diet advice and spinal education.
