Open your world to the power of language with English and Creative Writing

If you love stories, ideas and the power of writing, studying English and Creative Writing at Murdoch University will broaden your world and help you find your own voice as a writer.

Literature is how human beings communicate meaning, preserve memory and imagine possibilities.

When we read texts from another time or culture, we enrich our perspective on the world.

What to expect when you study English and Creative Writing

Students explore how text uniquely conveys ideas, values and experiences across cultures and place and throughout history.

From short stories to sonnets, students focus on critical analysis and the creation of their own pieces. They will study a range of texts including literary, public and performative works with a focus on how to write powerfully.

English and Creative Writing students go on to pursue careers in publishing, advertising, design, teaching, public administration, computer arts and as professional writers.

Turning the pages on possibility

Step into a creative, supportive and close-knit community of passionate readers and writers, where you will share your work through regular student forums, while also gaining publishing opportunities.

Whether you see your future in the arts, publishing, media, government, or as your own boss in the freelance world, English and Creative Writing at Murdoch is your launchpad.

This major is for students who are excited by reading, interpreting texts, writing and exploring how language shapes who we are and the world around us.
