In May, Murdoch University Information Technology students tested their skills against real-world industry challenges, working alongside global technology firm DXC Technology as part of a hands-on case competition. Students came together to tackle real-world industry challenges, applying critical thinking to develop technical solutions and assess potential business impacts.

Students collaborated in teams to tackle a real‑world business case sourced directly from industry mentors. The project required them to deeply analyse a core business problem, evaluate how emerging information technologies could strengthen their proposed solution, and articulate the potential business impact of their recommendations.

“This competition was a valuable opportunity to apply problem‑solving, teamwork, business analysis, and technology design under time pressure, while considering real‑world factors such as cost efficiency, compliance, and business impact.” - Pema Selden, School of Information Technology student and runner‑up of the Case Competition.

This event was an excellent opportunity for students and the School of Information Technology to strengthen its partnership with DXC Technology. Through this collaboration, students gain exposure to tech innovation, connect with industry experts, and explore future career pathways beyond the classroom.

“What stood out most was how differently each team approached the challenge, bringing their own perspectives, strengths, and creativity to the final presentations.” - Associate Professor Guanjin (Brenda) Wang, School of Information Technology Associate Dean (External Engagement).

Congratulations to all prize winners and to every student who took part in the competition.
