Ever wondered what it takes to get your research into a top-tier journal? We recently had the privilege of finding out first-hand! Murdoch Business School welcomed Dr. Ajay Manrai, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Global Marketing and Professor Emeritus at the University of Delaware, for an inspiring session titled: Crafting Excellence: Publication Tips from the Editors of the Journal of Global Marketing.
What’s the Big Idea?
Dr. Manrai didn’t just share tips—he gave us a peek into the editorial mindset of one of the world’s leading marketing journals. His message was clear:
"Top journals value meaningful contributions over technical perfection."
Instead of chasing acceptance, focus on advancing your field with innovative ideas. And remember—brilliance without strategic framing often goes unnoticed. Position your work so it aligns with the journal’s scope, engages with current debates, and tells a compelling story.
Avoid the Common Pitfalls
One question stood out:
"If you reviewed your own paper, would you recommend it?"
Dr. Manrai urged us to prioritize clarity, structure, and contribution alongside statistical rigor. Why do average ideas sometimes succeed while exceptional ones fail? It often comes down to visibility and storytelling.
The Journal’s Edge
The session wrapped up with a look at the Journal of Global Marketing’s impressive performance metrics—CiteScore and Impact Factor well above industry norms. Publishing isn’t just about adding a line to your CV; it’s about shaping global marketing discourse.
Our Takeaway
This event reinforced Murdoch Business School’s commitment to research excellence and global engagement. Faculty and doctoral students left energized, armed with practical strategies to craft impactful research that resonates with both academia and practice.
A huge thank you to Dr. Manrai for sharing his wisdom and generosity. Learning from one of the top global contributors to marketing was truly a privilege.
