This University of Queensland led research project is a partnership with Ngangk Yira Insitute for Change (NYIC), responding to socio-economic disadvantage and geographical isolation.
Mums and Bubs Deadly Diets is a partnership between Queensland and WA. This is a cross-centre collaboration with Yorga, Maaman and Koolanga Centre and the Coolamon Centre. Professors Rhonda Marriott and Roz Walker have worked with Senior Aboriginal Research Fellow Janinne Gliddon and Researcher Serena St Clair to determine the dietary intake of Aboriginal pregnant women and young mums, recognising that a healthy diet is important during pregnancy for optimal infant outcomes. Both Aboriginal mums, Elders and Health practitioners were interviewed in WA and Queensland to determine current diets practices, barriers to health foods (Phase One) and what women would like to know about and how they would like this information to be provided (Phase Two).
Both Phase One and Phase Two of the Mums and Bubs Deadly Diet project have been completed and the findings from have contributed to the development a website which is due to be launched in early February 2025.
