Open to a career in Law
Every part of life has a legal aspect, from the arts and sport to government and business, from health care and education to individual rights, responsibilities and obligations. If so, it sounds like you could be open to a career in Law!
Do you want to understand the rules that shape everyday life? Are you interested in how society organises power and resolves conflict?
If so, it sounds like you could be open to a career in Law!
A Bachelor of Laws provides a foundation for understanding how the Australian legal system operates, how it interacts with other legal systems globally and how it shapes social, economic, and political life. The degree prepares students for a wide range of careers, from legal practice and policy work to roles in government, business, and the community sector.
You will start by building a strong foundation through core units such as Foundations of Law or Skills for Legal Practice. These units explore diverse areas of law including constitutional law, property law, contract law, the law of corporations and administrative law. Of course, you will also learn about core areas such as criminal and civil procedure law.
You can also specialise with unique and exciting minors such as the Technology and Law unit, which will help you understand the impact technology has on the legal system and prepare you to succeed in today’s digital world.
Our courses focus on practical, hands-on learning to ensure you graduate career ready. You will gain real-world experience through opportunities like working on actual cases with real clients at SCALES Community Legal Centre, completing internships, and taking part in our mooting program, all while undertaking your studies. These experiences will help you build advocacy skills and give you the confidence to thrive in your legal career.
Our renowned Geneva Human Rights program offers the opportunity to study in Geneva while gaining firsthand exposure to the work of international NGOs and the impact they make globally. In the past, students have also taken part in international experiences such as the European Summer Academy in Macerata, Italy, and the India Immersion program at Jindal Global University, north of Delhi.

Thanks to our partnerships with Leo Cussen and the College of Law, you will have the unique opportunity to complete your practical legal training while studying, getting you practicing sooner. If you take advantage of our summer and winter intensive schedules, you could even finish your law degree in just three years.
We also celebrate diverse experiences and appreciate that your circumstances do not define your ability to succeed. This is why we offer two alternative pathways: Law Start and Pre-Law. Law Start is a half-day workshop with a written assessment that can be used as your basis for admission. Pre-Law gives you the chance to take a law unit early, and if you achieve 60%, you could secure your place in the Bachelor of Laws.
Whether you want to fight for justice, influence policy, or support your community, our Bachelor of Laws will give you the knowledge, skills, and experience to make it happen.
