If you're super organised (or just very excited!) and have put in your uni application already, you might be wondering what else you can do to prepare yourself for uni life. Read on - this guide is for you!

Still working on your application? Don't worry, we have plenty of tips to help you choose your TISC preferences.

5 tips to help you prepare for university

If you’re buzzing to start planning and preparing now, here are our top tips for preparing to start at uni.

1. Wrap your head around uni lingo

What's a tute? Do I need to worry about the census date? Is O-Week the same as orientation? How about Open Day? After high school, uni can feel like a completely different world - especially with all the new terms and slang you need to learn. But don't worry, uni lingo doesn't take too long to pick up - plus, we've put together a handy guide that explains common university terms and what they mean.

2. Understand majors and minors

Good news if you're a worrier or unsure about what you want to study: you don't need to have your whole degree mapped out before you start uni! While you do need to nominate which degree you're applying for when you apply to uni, you don't need to pick your minor. Plus, you can always change your mind and switch to a different course - even after you've started your degree.

3. Get familiar with fees and scholarships

An undergraduate degree is a significant investment in your future, so it’s important to consider the financial aspects involved with studying at university. You've probably heard about HECS-HELP, and if you're overwhelmed you're not alone! We've outlined everything you need to know about the Australian government loan in one handy guide.

Now is also the perfect time to have a look at all the scholarships available to you! You may be surprised by how many there are. It's a common misconception that scholarships are only for high achievers - Murdoch has many scholarships available and we encourage students from all walks of life to apply.

4. Get to know the campus

As far as getting to Murdoch, we have plenty of on-campus parking available. If you're not driving have a look at our guide to getting to the Perth campus for all your public transport options.

If you visited Murdoch on Open Day you may already be familiar with our sprawling campus. If not, don't fret! We have many on-campus events you can attend to help orient yourself. You can also find all the facilities, classes and offices you need with Murdoch Maps.

5. Explore clubs and societies

It's time to talk about one of the most exciting parts of the uni experience - the social side! University is a great time to branch out, make new friends and explore all your interests, and joining a club (or five) is the best way to do that. From diving to anime to writing, there's a club for everyone. And if you can't find what you're looking for, you could start your own club through the Murdoch Guild
