Murdoch’s Julie Meek will help Socceroos thrive and reach full potential
Murdoch University Food Science and Nutrition lecturer and Sports Dietitian Julie Meek has been appointed as the Socceroos’ dietitian.
Meek worked with the Socceroos’ Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach, Tony Popovic at Perth Glory, Melbourne Victory and now at the Socceroos.
Meek joined camp Socceroos as a fully-fledged member of the team in Adelaide before their win against China on 10 October, 2024.
She says it has been an absolute privilege to begin her journey as the Sports Dietitian with the Socceroos.
“When I look back at my career so far, I know that my new graduate self all those years ago had big dreams but finally realising this one, is beyond exciting,” Meek said.
“I can't wait to contribute to the success of this team and proudly wear green and gold for my country.”
Murdoch University School of Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences Dean Associate Professor Wayne Greene said that the School is behind Meek in her new role.
“An Accredited Practising Dietitian and qualified Sports Dietitian, Julie brings relevant up-to-date industry knowledge to teaching, and will share this expertise as she oversees the squad's nutritional needs,” Associate Professor Greene said.
“Her extensive knowledge and experience, including authoring two books, will ensure the Socceroos maintain optimal nutrition for peak performance.
“On top of her new role, Julie teaches second year nutrition for Murdoch’s Bachelor of Food Science and Nutrition, and according to student reports, is one of Murdoch’s most highly rated lecturers.”
Socceroos coach Tony Popovic said of his new support team, which includes Meek, new coaching staff and a new Team Analyst, “I am excited to welcome these talented individuals to our team”.
