Jordan found flexibility in a combined law and business degree

Immigrating with his family from South Africa in 2006, Jordan Feinberg attended high school in Perth and recalls always being profoundly interested in law and business.

How do you decide between two interests? This is the problem Jordan faced when it came to choosing his degree.

He found it difficult when it came to choosing just one area of interest to pursue at uni, which is why he decide to study a combined degree – the Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Business at Murdoch.

What is a combined degree?

A combined degree allows you to combine your knowledge of two areas and gives you broader career possibilities at the end of your studies. Jordan believes flexibility like this is top of mind for a lot of students these days.

“From chatting to other students, I have found that flexibility is one of the most important considerations,” he said.

“The flexibility of Murdoch’s courses has not only allowed me to receive a great education, but it has also given me the opportunity to work in law and accounting firms throughout my studies. I always recommend Murdoch University.”

Kickstarting a career during study

Jordan’s free-thinking mindset has encouraged him to view things from a different perspective and go against the grain to foster innovation.

“I’m hoping I can adopt this thinking specifically as a lawyer to bring about unique results for my clients, and perhaps the legal industry itself,” he said.

This optimistic attitude has kickstarted Jordan’s career, working at Western Power in their Governance Risk and Compliance team while studying.

“This enabled me to utilise my legal knowledge in an in-house environment. This was another valuable experience that my double degree at Murdoch gave me the opportunity to partake in.”

He currently works at a succession law firm called Gregson & Associates in Perth’s CBD and has co-founded a new legal society in Perth called Perth Legal Society that seeks to connect law students and lawyers directly, with the broader legal and business community.

The Murdoch experience

An advocate for his time at Murdoch, Jordan tells others that his education has given him confidence to succeed. He also appreciates the diverse range of people he has met during his studies saying that “Murdoch has great diversity in student enrolment, which is great because every student can find a group that they are in a similar stage of life with.”

“When joining law firms, accounting firms or multi-national companies, I am always confident that the knowledge I acquired at Murdoch will ensure I am well informed prior to learning about the requirements of a particular role,” he said.

Every role I have been in, I have been impressed by the content of Murdoch’s study units that are always relative to the real world, to real practice.”
