Global engagement course an Australian first

A new unit offered at Murdoch University will give students an edge in the international employment market.

The new Global Engagement unit, which is the first of its kind in Australia, helps students to capitalise on experiences from studying abroad.

Murdoch University has more than 50 exchange partners in 16 countries to provide students with opportunities to study in another country during their degree. Students can also study overseas as part of the University’s Asian language program and there are many opportunities to do placements and study tours overseas.

“Exchange programs have many benefits, helping students to become more confident and well-rounded as well as learning more about another culture,” said unit coordinator Associate Professor Jan Gothard.

“This new unit helps students gain cross-cultural awareness and competence through intensive coursework before exchange, supported reflective learning while in country,  and more coursework upon return to help them to make the most of their time overseas.

“This unit also teaches students how to turn their international experience into concrete professional attributes to increase their employment prospects.”

This unit is open to all Murdoch University students who have an international study experience, such as a placement, study tour or a language course.
