Student accommodation options in Perth

Apartment and pool at the Murdoch Village

Moving to Perth to study? As an international student you can choose between multiple accommodation options, including living at the Murdoch University Village, in a shared or privately rented house, or a homestay experience.

Murdoch University Village

If you want to be in the centre of all the on-campus action, you can't go past life at the Murdoch University Village!

Located at our Perth campus, classes are right on your doorstep, with direct access to public transport and a range of local shops and on-campus amenities. The Village has stylish, fully furnished apartments available for rent, with options to suit almost any budget.

The Village offers a range of facilities, including:

  • Swimming pool
  • Pool Lounge with a pool table, table tennis and foosball table
  • Rec Room with BBQ’s, projection screen and a communal kitchen
  • Beach volleyball and basketball courts
  • Theatre room with surround sound and projector
  • Movie room with satellite TV
  • Group study rooms

With the student experience as a core focus, the Village has an exciting residential life program designed to help you meet new people, succeed academically and develop essential life skills. Events include BBQs, themed dinners and parties, movie nights, sporting events and competitions, writing workshops and more.

The Village is safe, offering a 24-hour staff presence, with resident staff members living on-site and night-time security patrols. There is also a team of resident assistants responsible for organising events and assisting you with your transition to Murdoch. If you're experiencing personal or study problems, The Village staff are there to provide support.

The Village has housing options for modifications for students with disabilities, providing adapted apartments with modified bedrooms and bathrooms.

Shared or privately rented accommodation

If you wish to live off campus, you can live like a local in one of Perth's safe and welcoming suburbs. Depending on your lifestyle, you may choose to rent a single room from a house that is occupied by several other people or, you can take on an entire lease for a single property yourself.

In a share house, you will have your own room, but amenities such as kitchens and bathrooms will generally be shared with your housemates. Students living together in shared accommodation will often have rules for inviting guests over, the payment of shared utilities, and the usage and clean-up of common areas. Shared accommodation is a great option to make friends and see more of Perth.

Popular suburbs around Murdoch for students to rent in include Kardinya, Winthrop, Willagee, Bull Creek, and Leeming.

To find rooms available for rent, you can search the Murdoch Student Guild accommodation database, or the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia website.

Homestay accommodation

Want to experience life as part of an Australian family? Homestay accommodation is the perfect option for you.

There are many benefits of homestay accommodation, where you'll live with an Australian family, including improvement of English language skills, meeting new people and attending social events, tips on local community and culture from experts, plus the support and advice provided by your host family.

You can learn more about homestay accommodation via the Australian Homestay Network.
