Open to a career in Indigenous Knowledges

Are you curious about ways of understanding the world that stretch back tens of thousands of years? If so, it sounds like you could be open to exploring Indigenous Knowledges!

Do you want to expand your perspective, deepen your sense of self, and grow your capacity to engage meaningfully with others?

If so, it sounds like you could be open to exploring Indigenous Knowledges!

Indigenous knowledges, histories, and experiences offer profound insights into how we relate to each other, to Country, and to the systems that shape our lives. Rooted in Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, and doing, our Indigenous Knowledge courses invite you into an immersive learning journey, one that enriches not only your studies, but your personal growth and your understanding of what it means to be a responsible human being in a shared world.

This is not just professional development. It’s human development.

Four Ways to Study Indigenous Knowledges

Major in Indigenous Knowledges and Practices

A major provides a holistic, transformative learning experience. You’ll explore how Indigenous worldviews inform wellbeing, governance, environmental stewardship, community development, and more. This major offers perspectives that complement, and sometimes challenge, Western knowledge systems, giving you a richer, more balanced understanding of the world.

Co-Major in Indigenous Knowledges

A co-major gives you the depth of a major with the focus of a minor. It integrates seamlessly with degrees across science, media, law, nursing, business, education, and the humanities. This pathway strengthens your ability to work ethically, inclusively, and with cultural intelligence, skills that matter in every profession and every community.

Minor in Indigenous Knowledges

A minor allows you to explore themes such as social justice, community development, health and wellbeing, law and practice, and cultural continuity. You’ll examine these areas through Indigenous lenses, gaining insights that broaden your worldview and deepen your understanding of the societies we live in.

Individual Elective Units

If you’re drawn to a particular topic, Country, culture, identity, governance, or community, you can choose any unit from the minor as a general elective. This is a powerful way to enrich your degree with knowledge that expands your thinking and strengthens your sense of place in the world.

The places you could go

Indigenous Knowledges open pathways across countless industries, giving you the insight to contribute in ways that are culturally informed and socially conscious. You might find yourself shaping policy that meaningfully includes Indigenous perspectives, or working within community organisations that prioritise local voices and lived experience. These studies also prepare you for roles in health, education, law, environmental management, media, and beyond, anywhere that benefits from deep listening, cultural understanding, and collaborative thinking. Whatever direction you choose, you’ll carry forward a unique worldview that enriches your work and your contribution to the world.

Regardless of the pathway you choose to pursue, you will head into your future career with a truly unique understanding of the world.
