Open to a career in Agricultural Science Day

Are you passionate about animal health? Do you want to be part of the change driving sustainable farming practices and animal welfare?

Perhaps you want to make a real difference to rural communities, livestock, and wildlife.

If so, it sounds like you could be open to a career in Agricultural Science!

Develop a deep understanding of how the Agricultural sector operates with our Bachelor of Agricultural Science and make a meaningful difference to the world we live in by driving better animal welfare and a more sustainable future.

The foundational units of this bachelor’s degree provide you with a strong grounding across both science and agriculture, including Fundamentals of Chemistry, Cell Biology, and Data Analysis. Together, these units equip you with the skills necessary to assess data confidently while understanding the science behind it. You will also be learning about animal production systems, genetics and animal handling centred around hands-on learning at our campus farm.

Our flexible degree structure allows you to build specialised knowledge in one or two majors, including Animal ScienceAnimal Health or Crop and Pasture Science giving you the freedom to tailor your degree to suit your goals. With a wide range of minors also on offer, your course can be adapted to your interests and career goals.

With the need to feed a growing Australian and global population, food production systems and animal management must become more efficient and sustainable. The Animal Science major explores how technology and innovative practices are used to ensure food and fibre are produced ethically while meeting rising demand. Animal Health focuses on addressing contemporary challenges in animal and wildlife health and welfare. In the Crop and Pasture Science major, you will examine how current research and industry practices are responding to global concerns around food security and sustainable food production.

We value hands-on learning, which is why we are the only city-based university in Australia with a working farm. From day one, you’ll gain real-world experience beyond the classroom, developing animal handling skills, caring for livestock, or managing biosecurity, soils and crops. Our campus also provides easy access to our regional precincts, supporting cutting-edge research in food and animal production with hands on learning opportunities.
