Global leaders in industry, government academia, and civil society will gather at Murdoch University in the coming days, to accelerate solutions for a just, inclusive and net-zero energy future.

From February 8 to 13, Murdoch University will host the World Renewable Energy Congress 2026 (WREC 2026), one of the world’s longest-running international renewable energy forums.

Since 1999, WREC has drawn over 300 global delegates annually, providing a key platform for knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and technology collaboration.

WREC 2026 continues this tradition, with Western Australia serving as a living laboratory for renewable energy deployment, energy storage, green hydrogen, and low-carbon industries.

Over the six day congress, critical themes will be explored including:

  • Renewable energy technologies and systems integration
  • Decarbonisation of industry and critical minerals
  • Energy transition policy and governance
  • Energy equity, inclusion, and community-led solutions
  • Innovation pathways for net-zero and climate resilience

The conference will feature keynote and invited speakers, parallel technical and policy sessions, interactive workshops, pre-conference short courses, and curated field and technical tours showcasing WA’s renewable energy and decarbonisation initiatives.

Professor Tania Urmee, Chair of WREC 2026, said the conference comes at a pivotal moment for the global energy transition.

“As the world moves rapidly toward net zero, WREC 2026 provides a vital platform for sharing practical solutions, learning from diverse regional experiences, and strengthening collaboration between industry, government, and academia,” she said.

“Hosting WREC in Western Australia highlights Australia’s leadership and learning in renewable energy innovation and inclusive energy transitions.”

Vice Chancellor Professor Andrew Deeks said Murdoch University was honoured to host delegates from across Australia and around the world, united by a shared commitment to advance renewable energy and the global energy transition.

“There has never been a more important time for this conversation. The energy transition is no longer a distant aspiration,” he said.

“It is a defining challenge of our time — one that sits at the intersection of climate action, economic transformation, energy security, and social equity.

“Renewable energy is not simply about technology, it’s about people, places, and pathways — ensuring that the transition is reliable, inclusive, and just.

“Conferences such as WREC are vital because they bring together diverse perspectives, from researchers and policymakers to industry leaders and community voices, to share insights, challenge assumptions, and build the partnerships needed to turn ambition into action.”

Presenting WREC 2026 reinforces Murdoch University’s commitment to sustainability, international collaboration, and research-led impact in energy transition, climate action, and low-carbon development.
