Murdoch University proud partner of Global Citizen NOW: Perth
Murdoch University is pleased to announce we are partnering with international advocacy organisation Global Citizen for the Global Citizen NOW: Perth action summit.
From 18-20 October, Perth will welcome delegates from across Australia and the world for this landmark event, with Murdoch University proud to participate as a supporting partner.
Murdoch University Deputy Vice Chancellor Global Engagement Professor Simon McKirdy said the summit would focus on solutions that are locally effective and set a global precedent.
“Murdoch University is thrilled to partner with Global Citizen and the State Government to help bring this important event to Perth,” he said.
“Global Citizen’s support brings focus and momentum - mobilising millions and convening leaders to drive the policy and investment needed to tackle climate change, poverty, and inequality.
“At Murdoch, we are all about combining world-class science with Indigenous Knowledge to deliver practical results, such as through our collaboration with Tidal Moon to restore seagrass meadows decimated by climate change.
“We are looking forward to showcasing the power of this dual knowledge to the world, along with other state-of-the art innovations such as our work in critical minerals, the energy transition, and sustainable aviation fuels.”
Michael Sheldrick, Co-Founder, Chief Policy, Impact and Government Affairs Officer, Global Citizen said:
“Global Citizen NOW: Perth puts the world's electrification ambition front and centre, in the place best equipped to help deliver it. Western Australia is the State of Energy, so we’re excited to be bringing Global Citizen back to Perth for the first time in 15 years to convene the leaders and catalyse the commitments that will turn our clean energy potential into reality. Ahead of COP31, this is an opportunity not only to drive momentum behind a shared ambition to lift the global share of energy demand met by electricity to 35% by 2035, but to showcase the opportunity Western Australia has to lead, and benefit from, that shift."
Global Citizen NOW: Perth will bring together leaders from government, business, philanthropy, First Nations communities and the broader community to drive action on some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
Professor McKirdy said the event embodied Murdoch University’s commitment to research excellence, industry collaboration and meaningful contributions to climate action and sustainability.
Global Citizen NOW is part of a broader global campaign of events taking place ahead of COP31, the 2026 United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Türkiye.
