Murdoch students to experience the Indo-pacific in a COVID world

Murdoch students in Teshio on their Sustainable Tourism Development: Asian Study Tour

Murdoch University has secured just over $460,000 of funding under the 2022 New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Program.

The funding supports 6 mobility projects, enabling 114 Murdoch students to study, intern and learn more about the Indo-Pacific region from January 2022.

Even with the challenges of COVID-19, the University continues to provide unique teaching and learning opportunities for students, where they can safely experience global collaboration and gain incredible cultural insight.

Kelly Smith, Pro Vice Chancellor International at Murdoch University, said that the program could run online, face-to-face or as a hybrid of both, depending on the emerging COVID-19 situation as the year progresses.

“The program has been very popular despite COVID-19, with over 100 students engaging in their projects online in 2021 and now 114 students looking forward to their experience for 2022".

Students will be able to use what they have learnt through practical application in the field, deepen their understanding of the countries they are working with and develop long-lasting professional and personal networks they can carry with them throughout their career”. “We will continue to monitor the global situation closely to stay updated on the opportunities for our students.”

The program, an initiative developed by the Australian Government, aims to provide students with a culturally immersive experience and strengthen ties with our neighbours in the Indo-Pacific region.

Murdoch University Interim Vice Chancellor, Professor Jane den Hollander expressed her gratitude for the funding and congratulated the students on their accomplishments.

“It’s an excellent achievement to have received this funding to provide our students with a wonderful experience."

Congratulations to our staff and students. I am delighted that Murdoch University’s application to the New Colombo Mobility Program was successful." Professor Jane den Hollander, Interim Vice Chancellor
