Murdoch Singapore Welcomes Westpac Scholars for Disruptive Leaders Program
Murdoch Singapore was privileged to host 26 outstanding undergraduate scholars from across Australia for an intensive four-day leadership program, the Disruptive Leaders Program.
Sponsored by the $100 million Westpac Scholars Trust, the program offers unique cultural and industry experiences tailored for students enrolled in STEM degrees.
Designed in partnership with Common Purpose, the initiative aims to cultivate the next generation of global leaders by exposing them to complex leadership challenges in a rapidly evolving world.
Murdoch University Pro Vice Chancellor of Transnational Education and Dean of Murdoch Singapore, Professor Peter Waring remarked, “We are delighted to work with Westpac Scholars Trust and Common Purpose UK to deliver fantastic learning experiences for these future leaders."
The program opened with a keynote address by Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore, the Honorable Ms Emily Follett.
She shared candid reflections from her distinguished diplomatic career—spanning trade negotiations, international law, and mission management.
Her address offered an inspiring reminder that diplomacy is not just about policies, but about people, partnerships, and purpose.
Ms Follett also spoke on the deep and pragmatic relationship between Australia and Singapore, which has flourished over the past 60 years.
This enduring partnership continues to evolve, encompassing critical areas such as technology, sustainability, and leadership - reflecting the dynamic and forward-thinking nature of both nations.
Together, Australia and Singapore contribute meaningfully to global conversations on innovation, environmental stewardship, and effective governance.
To foster a deeper cultural exchange, Murdoch Singapore students were paired with the visiting scholars, enabling authentic insights into life in the city-state.
“It was terrific to see these bright young scholars engage with the sustainability and technology challenges faced by Singapore, and be inspired by the city’s imaginative responses," Professor Waring said.
The Disruptive Leaders Program is a celebration of collaboration, cultural exchange, and leadership development – hallmarks of Murdoch Singapore’s commitment to impactful global education.
