ENG109: Computing for Scientists and Engineers

This unit introduces the process of expressing scientific or engineering problems in computational terms, and using computing tools to solve them. MATLAB, Excel and Visual Basic are used to illustrate programming constructs, data types, operators, control flow, functional decomposition, file handling, report generation, modularity and reuse. One topic examines applications of microcontrollers and how to program them to construct embedded systems. Workshops and project work develop practical skills, focusing on problems selected from science and engineering.
