BIO364: Microbiology II

An advanced unit in microbiology with emphasis on molecular microbiology and microbial biotechnology. Students will gain understanding of diversity, interactions, ecology, and applications of micro-organisms in biomedical, agricultural and environmental biotechnology. Students will develop skills in practical research, critical review and communication. Topics include microbial diversity and metabolism; role of adhesion and biofilms in microbial communities and pathogenicity; microbial genomics; molecular responses to the environment; molecular communication between micro-organisms, plants and animals; Archaea, microbial biotechnology and microbial ecology.
