What will you learn?
When you enrol in the Horizons Summer School, you can choose to do one of the following units:
You’ll work as a disease detective, using modern laboratory methods, equipment and research skills to explore emerging diseases. See how disease detectives investigate epidemics and solve problems to identify microbes and reduce the damage caused by disease. You’ll learn about how living conditions, changing ecosystems and travel all contribute to the spread of disease.
You’ll develop a pitch for a business idea that demonstrates sustainability or social innovation. Learn how businesses can act as forces for good through national and global case studies. Using a range of creative thinking tools, including the Lean Canvas Business Model, you will develop and communicate your own innovative product or service idea.
As a Murdoch Roboteer you will build a robot to perform a task related to those constructed in the FRC (FIRST Robotic Competition) worldwide high school competition. You will be presented with an FRC robotic design problem and with the support of FRC team mentors you will use CAD, 3D printing computers and a range of workshop facilities and power tools to design, prototype, program and fabricate a robot able to perform the selected task.
You’ll use a range of digital and non-digital platforms to create your own social media campaign for change. Discover how celebrities, social media activists, politicians and community groups use digital spaces to try and bring about change in the world. You’ll learn about theories and patterns of change and uncover strategies to bring about change in a dynamic and digital world.
