Waardong

Waardong is a special entry and enabling program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who want to become veterinarians. The program provides academic, social and cultural support for students enrolled in Veterinary Science or other participating science courses.

Course description

Waardong teaches Orientation Chemistry for students without a background in chemistry, and supplementary enabling units for students throughout their veterinary or other science studies.

Course structure

Students entering Waardong are placed in either one of Non-Chemistry Transition or Transition with Chemistry.

Non-Chemistry Transition

Students who do not have a background in chemistry are placed in Non-Chemistry Transition, which provides an intensive Orientation Chemistry unit and supplementary tutoring in all other units. Students study the first year study units over two academic years.

Transition with Chemistry

Students who have entered their Science major with Year 12 Chemistry are placed in Transition with Chemistry, which provides for supplementary tutoring in all units. These students enrol in the first year full-time.

Entry requirements for Domestic Students

This special entry program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is based on student results during the one-week residential testing and selection process. Evaluation of student readiness for study involves practical and written exercises throughout the week.

Alternative entry may be permitted through K-Track enabling program.

To apply for this course you must have already accepted an offer for an undergraduate course.

English competence.

This course is fee-free, so there is no cost to you.

Fees and scholarships for international students

This course is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The deadline for submission of applications is 30 September each year.

Testing and selection week is in early December.
