What is business?

It’s perfectly normal to be uncertain about what ‘business’ actually entails. Is it managing a team of people? Is it taxes? Is it creating something the world needs?

It’s the above and so much more. The beauty of business is that it can be whatever you want it to be. We’re here to nurture your creativity in pursuing what it is that makes you feel alive, whether that be in tourism, accounting, or entrepreneurship. Check out some of the career possibilities here.

The Murdoch difference

Studying a Bachelor of Business at our school means you join a vibrant and diverse community that encourages a culture of innovation, turning ideas into action. We’ve made sure our courses and experiences are well-rounded, and we know you’ll appreciate this both as a student and later on as a working professional.

Check out these opportunities:

SimLab

We’re the first university in Australia to offer SimLab, an immersive virtual reality program that prepares you for real-life career experiences. Human Resources students use this state-of-the-art technology with avatars and actors to practice interviews and conflict resolution.

Launchpad

Launchpad is a valuable platform for businesses and start-ups to engage – even collaborate and co-create – with students and academics. Each month we also host Startup Mornings @ Launchpad where local entrepreneurs discuss business and the challenges they face.

We received a 5-star rating in the QS World University Rankings 2023

At Murdoch, we encourage and support you – the future of business – to think and act in a more sustainable and ethical way. We’ve been passionate about this for 50 years, so welcome to the journey with us.

Beyond the classroom

It’s not just on-campus where the magic happens. Our off-campus opportunities include:

  • Professional mentoring. We encourage students to join programs such as Murdoch Student Emerging Leaders and Murdoch Industry Mentoring.
  • Industry placements. Connect with our network of businesses for exciting, real-world work experience. For example, our marketing students were part of the behind-the-scenes team that launched RAC Arena’s Snapchat at the Harry Styles concert.
  • Pitchfest competition. Our brightest entrepreneurial talents will be selected to present a three-minute pitch to professionals from the investor and start-up world. A bit like Shark Tank!
  • Study abroad. Push yourself out of your comfort zone; take off overseas with fellow students for two to six weeks in countries such as Germany, India, South Korea and Sweden.
  • Study exchange. Being at uni doesn’t mean you have to put travel plans on hold. You can take a semester or two at one of our partner universities, living on campus and experiencing life in another culture. Explore countries like Japan, Finland or the US.
  • Competitions. Participate in team competitions, solving real-world problems and gain network opportunities along the way.

Choose your adventure: which degree and major will you pick?

Our Bachelor of Business offers nine majors. Some lean toward the creative side, like Marketing; others are financially-minded, like Finance; and some are people-focused, like Human Resources Management.

Take a double major if you’re interested in more than one area, or apply for a double degree (for example, our popular Law-Business combination) to really expand your options. Get to know our school and courses a little better.
