Murdoch commerce student Jordan Jupp says being part of the Think Big competition was the perfect opportunity to step outside his comfort zone. Now as a competition finalist, Jordan shares his experience with Think Big and his start-up idea, LEAP.
How did you hear about Think Big?
I joined the Launchpad’s monthly start up mornings this year and enjoyed the entrepreneurial mindsets that I was exposed to. After seeing the variety of experienced industry professionals running the sessions for the Think Big competition, I signed up to gain as much insight as I could for both personal and professional growth.
Tell us about your start-up idea
LEAP is a not-for-profit organisation that takes a proactive approach to addressing mental health and wellbeing in adolescents and young adults. LEAP is focused on delivering our values of ‘Curiosity, Connection and Community’. Creative and empowering age-based programs are delivered by passionate mentors that facilitate important personal and life skills in a fun and welcoming environment.
What was your motivation behind creating your idea?
I have always been passionate about mental health, as I have seen in others and personally experienced the effects it has on wellbeing. Whether in a city or a small country town, the repercussions of suicide are devastating to the entire community. LEAP packages and delivers the critical and valuable skills learnt over our journeys that can adapt to the unique needs and preferences of the adolescent community.
Tell us about your Think Big experience
Think Big has been a truly amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone. I have gained valuable insights into the experiences of the industry professionals and learnt lifelong skills that will benefit both my personal and professional career.
What are your entrepreneurial goals for the future?
My aspirations are to make a difference in whatever stage of life I’m in. Seeing first-hand the positive and significant effects the right mentor and advice can provide, I aim to combine my passion and experience to encourage and empower the future generations.
