Are you interested in human behaviours associated with crime? Do you want to be apart of understanding, solving and preventing crime? Make a positive impact in the legal system? Well, the world of Law and Criminology might be for you.

Working in the field of law, criminology, or both, opens the doors to a wide range of differing (and exciting) career prospects. Whether you’re passionate about making a difference in the field of law, legal studiescriminal behaviour, crime science or white collar and corporate crime, there is a degree and major waiting for you at Murdoch.

A Criminology course that gives you real-world experience

Studying a Bachelor of Criminology, you’ll learn how to analyse and evaluate crime related problems and issues, gain an understanding of human behaviours, become a whiz at collecting and interpreting data, and gain valuable communication, project management, and research skills.

Studying such a degree will also broaden your understanding around the justice and legal system, prison and rehabilitation services as well as crime detention and prevention.

This course isn’t like a typical uni degree that might keep your head in the books. Students in a Bachelor of Criminology are mentored by real-life criminologists, and you’ll develop your communication skills through roleplay, negotiation and interactive activities.

Couldn’t get enough in the Bachelor’s course? Murdoch also offers the Master of Criminology – the only course of it’s kind in Western Australia!

Combine Criminology and Forensic Science for a degree like no other

By studying a combined degree in Bachelor of Criminology with a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Biology and Toxicology, not only will you be studying the only degree of it’s kind in Western Australia but also gain a unique combination of skills to enter into the industry.

You’ll get to learn the skills in forensic disciplines including forensic DNA, anthropology and palynology (the use of pollen grains to connect a suspect with a crime scene) as well as the pathology around injuries and the weapons that cause them.

Studying Criminology and Forensic Biology and Toxicology at Murdoch allows you to gain hands-on experience by applying such DNA sequencing and other forensic techniques from the lab to simulated crime scenes on and off-campus. You will meet and learn from industry experts and build a network from within Murdoch’s Forensic, Psychology, Law and Criminology disciplines.

Build courtroom ready Law skills before graduating

Prefer the show Suits over Criminal Minds? Looking to make a difference by defending the rights of others in the name of social justice? A degree in Law might be more suited to you.

Pursuing a Bachelor of Laws will act as the first stepping stone into your career as a solicitor, barrister or even legal analyst.  With the chance to complete your undergraduate law degree in just four years, you’ll get career ready by having the opportunity to take a hands-on approach to the law and develop strong real-life legal skills. This will be your life in the classroom and the Moot Courtroom.

Through our clinical program with partners such as SCALES Community Legal Centre, this program will give you the opportunity to work on real cases with real clients and get new insight into the legal system.

You can also further develop your reasoning skills in our internationally recognised mooting program. Mooting is a simulated court proceeding where you will be presented with a legal problem and argue it before a 'judge' in our purpose-built courtroom.
