Murdoch University will welcome world-renowned science communicator Dr Chris Smith to Perth next month as part of National Science Week.
Accompanied by a senior member of his talented team, Dr Smith will entertain the crowds as The Naked Scientist, the name of his BBC show, at a number of locations in Perth, Rockingham and Mandurah.
"Murdoch University recognises the need to inspire young people about a career in science and research through engagement and role modelling. Chris has an incredibly engaging personality and terrific communicator," said Professor David Morrison, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research at Murdoch University.
"There are a number of opportunities for the public to see and interact with The Naked Scientists, including at Murdoch’s Open Day on August 18."
Described as a spectacular, fun and explosive (but safe!) experience, The Naked Scientists take science back to the bare basics, showing just how exciting it can be.
At these upcoming performances, crowds will be treated to incredible sights, including a flame tornado, wall of foam and the 'Gherkinator'.
Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Andrew Taggart said The Naked Scientists would also perform for students and teachers in Rockingham and Mandurah, as part of Murdoch’s MAP4U program.
"The Murdoch Aspirations and Pathways for University (MAP4U) Project is all about enabling, empowering and inspiring young students to achieve their full potential," Professor Taggart said.
"We want students in Rockingham, Kwinana and Mandurah to believe they can achieve, especially in science. Hopefully, The Naked Scientists will help them realise that the possibilities for study in science are endless!"
Members of the public are welcome to see The Naked Scientists in action at Murdoch University’s Open Day on Sunday, August 18.
