The Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship is helping Murdoch students like Mark to network with industry professionals and experience one-of-a-kind career opportunities before they graduate.
With fond memories growing up of playing computer games alongside his father, Mark’s interest in technology and computer science was set in motion from a young age.
“In high school I began to teach myself basic programming skills, I immediately gained an interest in wanting to further my studies in computer science. After completing Computer Science as an ATAR subject in Year 12 I knew that IT was the field I wanted to pursue a career in and so I applied to study at Murdoch.”
For Mark, the Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship was the first step towards fulfilling a successful career in IT. Now studying a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Computer Science and Cyber Security and Forensics, he’s had the opportunity to work for Westpac as a Junior Technical Consultant and has assisted with the migration of Westpac’s corporate IT systems to Windows 10.
Making the most of the experience
The opportunities, experience and teaching staff were even more reason to apply for the scholarship and continue his studies at Murdoch.
“The Murdoch staff are keen to provide a valuable learning experience and genuinely care about the students, they’re always ready to lend a helping hand and answer your questions. The students at Murdoch are also really friendly and my fellow technology students are always happy to help each other out.”
The on-campus facilities available to IT students are also preparing them to become career ready graduates. Students have access to the IT Data Centre, Computer Labs kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment, VR Equipment, an Esports Gaming Hub and an IT student lounge.
