With travel restrictions still in place and many of you having to postpone their overseas plans, we’re pleased to offer you a range of virtual opportunities before the end of the year! Join our Murdoch Outbound LMS community for more information!

With no costs for airfare, accommodation, visas or other travel expenses, these are affordable and exciting opportunities, available to anyone! Including those who have work, family, and carer, cultural or other commitments, or whose capacity to travel is affected by disability or health issues. By participating, you may also be able to get credit towards your degree, please contact myself and your academic chair to discuss.

Participate in an academic and cultural program with other students from Murdoch University on one of our discipline-led programs! Embark on a Virtual Experiential Learning Program and dive into the world of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals! Or Go Global on the Hacker Exchange Virtual Innovation Sprint, and pitch your startup to a panel of investors! Many of our programs will cater for the MSP201 Real World Learning unit. Gain professional experience and build an international network in your field with a virtual internship from the comfort of your house. Enhancing your career prospects and become more culturally aware as you meet and connect with people from a new country. Internships are usually at least 4 weeks in duration. Talk to your academic chair and the Work Integrated Learning team about whether your internship will count as credit towards your degree.

  • ACICIS Study Indonesia Virtual Indonesian Language Short Course

    The Virtual Indonesian Language Short Course (ILSC) provides intensive language training to students from beginners to advanced level in Indonesian language. Running in the university vacation periods, the program will either fast-track or supplement a student’s language studies or can be taken as an introduction or a ‘taster’ to the Indonesian language and culture for students exploring an interest in Indonesia. Students will complete intensive Indonesian language tuition incorporating language classes, cultural classes and virtual fieldtrips. Students can take a three-week module (or take two modules for a six week package), delivered by Satya Wacana Christian University.

  • ACICIS Study Indonesia Virtual Internships

    The ACICIS Virtual Professional Practicum Programs provide students with a unique opportunity to gain professional experience and establish networks in Indonesia. Students undertake online Indonesian language and cultural classes, and a series of seminars, as well as a virtual professional placement (160 hour internship) with an Indonesian or international organisation. This program allows students to complete intensive study over the winter university break and complete the internship component alongside their regular university schedule.

  • ACICIS Study Indonesia Virtual Public Health Study Tour

    The Virtual Public Health Study Tour (PHST) is a two-week intensive study tour that offers students a change to gain insight into the public health sector in Indonesia. Students will learn from leading health professionals and discuss approaches to health issues with Indonesian university students. The virtual tour will be facilitated by a leading academic in the field of public health who possesses specialised knowledge of Indonesia. No background in Indonesian language is required to participate in this tour. Students from the following disciplines are welcome to apply; Public Health, Epidemiology, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Health Promotion, Community Health, and Health Sciences.

    A virtual internship will give students an insight into what it is like to work on projects regardless of geographical location. This is a perfect opportunity to work on your career goals and specific interests! With the use of modern technology, virtual internships allow students and graduates to work remotely and gain relevant industry experience with an international company. Virtual interns are provided with a unique opportunity to gain practical skills, industry connections and business experience without leaving home. Through this program, you can expect to gain practical skills in your area of study and really boost your resume with work experience at a company based overseas. This program is perfect for students who want to gain professional experience, work with an intercultural team, connect with another culture and who are looking for a lower cost (and environmentally friendly!) program option. Your virtual internship will be primarily project-based, with either one larger project over the course of the internship or several smaller ongoing assignments. Regardless of how many you undertake, each project will be substantive and you can be sure you are contributing to the business in a meaningful way. While this program allows for flexibility and independence, you will also have plenty of guidance and support from a designated supervisor.

  • MU discipline led: Virtual multidisciplinary Shark Trade Field Placement

    Do you love the Ocean? Are you interested in eco-sustainability, conservation and community development? Murdoch University, Project Hiu and Madison Stewart (aka ‘Shark Girl’ Madison) invites you to submit an expression of interest for participating in the virtual mobility project ‘The Eco-Economy Project - Protecting Livelihoods Above and Below the Surface’. Supported by the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant Program (NCP), Murdoch University and Project Hiu have teamed up to offer a unique 3 credit point general elective unit for Murdoch University undergraduate students. Designed to meet the needs identified by organisation Project Hiu, the virtual mobility project focus is dedicated to shark protection through creating alternative income streams and business opportunities for shark fishermen and the wider community on Maringkik Island, Lombok. Guided and supported by a Murdoch academic and project partner Project Hiu, students will work in teams to invent and design business models to meet an identified real need, opportunity or problem.

    Costs The project is funded by the Australian Federal Government, therefore only students eligible for the NCP are able to participate in this program, which is free of charge. You will be enrolled into a Murdoch University Business shell unit BUS3451, however can defer the unit cost onto HECS as per normal.
    Eligible courses and students All Murdoch disciplines, except Veterinary Science, Nursing and Chiropractic. To participate, you need to:
    • Be an Australian Citizen
    • Are enrolled in a Murdoch University undergraduate degree
    • Have completed at least 24 credit points
    • Have a General Elective left in your degree, which counts towards the core requirements of your course. Please note that you are unable to take part in this project, if it is in addition to your core requirements.

    Embark on a virtual journey to Germany, Italy, Hong Kong, Singapore and the U.S.. Get to virtually meet managers from well-known global brands, such as Porsche, Boeing, Dolce & Gabbana and Facebook. In addition, you become short-term entrepreneurs yourselves when working on your own Start-up Challenge Projects and learn about the differences between the American, German, Italian, Hong Kong and Singaporean start-up ecosystems. Add to your global network when going on the various virtual industry visits where you meet with corporate managers and local entrepreneurs. Watch five virtual guest speakers giving an overview of the different start-up ecosystems to help you to understand each country’s entrepreneurship culture.   • Western Australia - East Java University Virtual Exploration Program

    It is acknowledged that people-to-people connection is the foundation of sustainable collaboration and development. As well as enhancing youth mobility is believed would bring great benefit for mutual understanding and future collaboration among countries. In other hand, COVID-19 Pandemic makes physical mobility becomes impossible. Therefore, 9 East Java Universities are introducing East Java Exploration (EJx) through online platform.

    This short program is designed as a general course with multidisciplinary approach for participants to explore East Java in various aspects. Through online series of lecture, discussion, case study, observation, and direct interaction with people from different background, participants would gain better understanding about East Java and its potential and challenges.
