Workshops and events
Presentations, workshops, seminars, careers fairs, expos and other industry networking events are available throughout the year both within and outside your degree.
Take advantage of the different ways to find out about:
- career and work options related to your study area
- student and graduate opportunities and
- what employers value or look for in students and graduates.
The Murdoch Guild student clubs and societies and professional associations in industry also host networking events for students. You can even step up and volunteer to be part of the organising committee to add something extra to your resume.
Get along to a careers fair
Careers and Employability hosts and promotes careers fairs and expos throughout the year, ideal for connecting with potential employers and networking with industry professionals.
Careers fairs are held on and off campus for students and recent graduates. There are also a growing number of virtual careers fairs. Visit the Murdoch University Careers Directory for information on upcoming online events.
Many careers fairs are zero cost events that just require a little courage and preparation. You get as much out of the experience as you put in and some can launch your career. That is what happened for Michael.
Murdoch graduate Michael went along to the annual Big Meet careers fair at the beginning of his final year of a Business degree (Human Resources Management major) and spoke to an employer representative from the Department of Finance about their graduate program. Michael was offered useful tips on how to improve his application, which helped him secure a graduate job in Canberra! Prior to attending the event Michael had not considered a career in the finance industry and has now progressed to the role of Business Analyst.
Employer presentations, workshops and seminars
Employers are keen to present to students on campus or online. They share valuable information about student and graduate opportunities and the skills and attributes they look for. These events are offered both within or outside your degree and promoted by academics and/or the Careers and Employability team through myMurdoch Career.
Often there are limited places for these events so book in early!
Careers and Employability presentations, workshops and seminars
The Career Development Advisor also presents on various career, employability and job search topics, both within and outside your degree. They often provide you with job search skill development and career learning opportunities to complement your studies or discipline knowledge. These presentations and workshops are held throughout the year. A suite of recordings is currently available on Boost Your Employability.
