The enduring impact of our namesake, Sir Walter Murdoch, and our former Chancellor, Sir Ronald Wilson, is a point of pride for Murdoch University. Both were champions of human rights and social justice. Both believed in the pursuit of truth, justice and intellectual inquiry.
In this 50th anniversary special address, the Hon. Dr Tony Buti explores the legacy of two Australian leaders—Murdoch and Wilson—on Australian society, and on our University.

About the Speaker
The Hon. Dr Tony Buti MLA is the Western Australian Minister for Education, Aboriginal Affairs, Citizenship and Multicultural Interests. He has been a member of the Legislative Assembly since 2010, representing the electorate of Armadale.
Prior to entering parliament, Dr Buti was a legal academic at Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia, a high school teacher, and AFL-player agent. He has also been a legal officer in the Royal Australian Navy (Reserves). He is the author of several books, including the award-winning biography of Sir Ronald Wilson, A Matter of Conscience (UWA Publishing, 2007).
