Generous donation to support Motor Neuron Disease research

Murdoch University’s efforts to understand the causes and develop treatments for Motor Neuron Disease (MND) have received a significant funding boost. The Racing for MNDi Foundation has donated $75,333 to support the salary of an independent researcher throughout 2020. This donation brings their total donations to Murdoch University in support of MND research to an astounding $510,333.

Lotterywest grant boosts ‘Baby Coming-You Ready’ project

A mental health screening tool developed for pregnant Aboriginal women is being supported by the WA Government through a $230,000 Lotterywest grant.

The funding will assist in promoting the wellbeing program for expectant parents, particularly through a community Elders network known as ‘Gangster Grannies’, who will provide support for clients and their families.

School of Education Award Evening 2018

The School of Education celebrated its top achieving students at an Award Evening on 10 April. Attended by Murdoch University’s generous donors, staff and students, the event featured some passionate speeches about the power of education. Graduate and triple prize winner Dr Luke Diepeveen spoke about his gratitude to Murdoch University, as well as those who made donations to the various awards presented on the evening.

Banksia Association Dinner November 2017

Banksia Association dinner a roaring success

The exotic sounds of Perth Zoo were the ambient soundtrack as members of the Banksia Association sat down for their annual dinner and presentation of the 2017 Honours Scholarship.

Over 90 people attended the event, which featured unusual pre-dinner entertainment where guests were introduced to native Australian reptiles by the Zoo’s Animal Encounters team.

The Banksia Association was established in 2005, drawing together a special group of individuals who had made a lasting, positive impact on Murdoch University. It consists of over 250 members, including past external members of Senate, Honorary Degree recipients and Emeritus Professors.

Philanthropy Honoured

The Office of Advancement hosted the annual Donor Thank You Celebration at the Perth Arena on 12 October.

The evening was the perfect opportunity to honour donors and VET Trust supporters, whose philanthropy provides life changing opportunities for students, aids pioneering research programs and enables the university to pursue its vision of excellence.

All those who spoke gave testimony to the power of philanthropy to bring change for good.

Mandurah Campus Award Ceremony 2017

The achievements and academic excellence of Murdoch University students and staff from Mandurah and Rockingham were celebrated at a ceremony on August 24.

Generous prize and scholarship donors and the Mayors of the Cities of Mandurah and Kwinana joined University leaders in congratulating winners in 13 student prize categories, six scholarships and two awards for staff at Murdoch’s Mandurah Campus.

2017 Keith Roby Memorial Lecture

The Paris Agreement and its Implications for Energy Transformation Globally and in Australia

Presented by: Dr Bill Hare, Director - Climate Analytics

The Paris Agreement’s central aim is to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

The Keith Roby Memorial Lecture in Community Science is an annual, free public lecture established by the Keith Roby Memorial Trust in memory of Dr Roby.

Following the passing of our well respected and internationally renowned colleague, Professor Susan Moore, Murdoch University is establishing a new prize the “Susan Moore Memorial Prize in Nature-Based Tourism” in her honour. Professor Susan Moore created and led the Nature Based Tourism Research Group and won awards for her teaching and research achievements during her 21 year career at Murdoch.
