Dear Colleagues,

I would like to congratulate the College of Veterinary Medicine for getting through their International Veterinary Accreditation this week. I would also like to congratulate and thank all staff who supported our Animal Science and Veterinary Science students at the Intercollegiate Meat Judging Association event held in NSW. The team from Murdoch University ranked third in the nation and Animal Science student Kirsty Walters competed exceptionally well, taking out champion in the beef pricings class, overall placings, written reasons and reserve champion for beef carcass judging.

Don't forget about Open Day to be held on the 24th of July – please register to get involved. Any questions should be directed to Mhairi Finlayson. The Vice Chancellor and our Chief Operating Officer are calling on all staff to assist with a general campus de-clutter over a two week period from Monday 4th July and Friday 15th July. I would like to ask all staff to please review the common spaces in their area and identifying opportunities to de-clutter, tidy or dispose. If you require assistance with your area or you are unsure how to tackle it please contact Marilyn Davies, Technical Resources Manager  or by phone on 9360 2365.  Please remember that al VLS volunteers are required to attend the VLS Open Day briefing on Thursday 21st July.

  • 2017 ARC and NHMRC Schemes - Call for Expressions of Interest

    Murdoch University runs an internal Expression of Interest (EOI) process for applications to the ARC and NHMRC schemes. The Office of Research and Innovation is now calling for EOIs from researchers who are intending to submit to the ARC Discovery Programme (Discovery Project, Discovery Indigenous, DECRA and Future Fellowships) and to the NHMRC schemes (including Projects and Fellowships).

    PLEASE READ the attached documents; ARC and NHMRC Deadlines for 2016 and 2017 and Guidelines for submissions to the ARC and NHMRC Major Grant Rounds for important information about this process, when to submit an EOI or IRMA. coversheet, deadlines, requirements and the assessment of EOIs.

    Applicants required to submit an EOI must do so by the 9th September 2016 using the appropriate EOI scheme form to EOIs submitted after this deadline will only be accepted with DVC R&I approval.

    Applicants should discuss their intention to submit with their Associate Dean of Research in the first instance. Applicants who are uncertain whether they are required to submit an EOI or an IRMA coversheet as per the attached guidelines should discuss this with the Grants team

    While we have targeted teaching staff in large first year units, any interested staff member is welcome to attend.

  • Adaptive Responses to Students with Socially Challenging Behaviours

    The Centre for University for Teaching and Learning Support would like to invite unit coordinators and tutors to a morning workshop "Adaptive responses to diverse student behaviours”

    This workshop has a focus on socially and emotionally challenging, rather than academically challenging, student behaviours. These socially and emotionally challenging behaviours may relate to diagnosed or undiagnosed disabilities or mental health issues, and may be challenging for students themselves, their peers, and/or tutors. e workshop is hands-on and will introduce key support services and resources, provide interactive discussion through scenarios and role play, and introduce some tools for staff.

    The workshop is collaboratively organised and facilitated by staff from CUTL, Counselling, Equity, Social Inclusion, Kulbardi, and Management & Governance.
  • Oxygen Provision for Dive Accidents

    Date of Course 30th Sep 2016, Starting Time 9:00am, Ending at 12:00pm, Location Animal House #2.

    This course will be run for the above date and is recommended if you are diving for the University. The contents cover the skills and knowledge required to administer oxygen, equipment set up, how to administer oxygen in 3 different ways to patients, CPR techniques and the situations it should be given.
    Course prerequisite is a current Provide 1st Aid Certificate (formerly a Snr 1st Aid Cert) with cost being $150 if an existing Oxygen Providers qualification has not expired by no more than 6 months. Otherwise the cost is $180.;

  • The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research Sundowner

    On Tuesday August 9, the Perkins is holding a Student Information Sundowner to give students an opportunity to meet our researchers, find student project opportunities and explore the exciting career prospects in medical research. The event will be held at our Nedlands facility on the QEII Medical Centre campus, from 4pm to 6pm. Nibbles and drinks are provided.

Free events to attend and a chance to hear from the Murdoch Executive on the national innovation and science agenda plus Murdoch researchers talking about their experiences starting something – turning ideas from research into technology, social enterprises, services, apps, resource kits and business models for impact.

  • Kings Park Science Seminar

  • Combined Biological Sciences Meeting

    The Combined Biological Sciences Meeting is being help on 26th August at the UWA Club.
