Wildlife Biology and Conservation


We are extending our knowledge of our fauna and its linkages with ecosystem services to increase understanding and health of wildlife, identify conservation issues, and improve future strategies for ecosystem management.

To address key research questions, our approaches range from advanced molecular technologies to aerial surveys for population and habitat monitoring. We generate practical research outcomes relevant to the real world to guide conservation management practice and policy.

  • Can mine-site rehabilitation practices be managed to ensure optimal habitats required by native wildlife?
  • Can we help wildlife adapt to rapidly changing environments due to climate change and other disturbances such as fire, disease and pests?
  • Can we drive wildlife conservation and environmental awareness through sustainable nature based tourism?
  • Can we devise threat amelioration for endangered species and habitats in aquatic ecosystems?
  • Can we use molecular tools to determine the distribution and movement of feral animals to inform effective management?
