VET627: Anaesthesia and Critical Care

This unit is designed to improve knowledge on monitoring of the anaesthetised animal; techniques for providing pre-, intra- and postoperative analgesia; anaesthesia of small animals with gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine diseases. The critical care component includes clinical assessment and recognition of complications including multiple organ dysfunction, monitoring of the cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, renal, haematological and coagulation systems and therapy -- including crystalloids, colloids, transfusion, oxygen, ventilation and nutritional support.

Prerequisites

Enrolment in Master of Veterinary Studies in Small Animal Practice or enrolment in the Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Studies in Small Animal Practice.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
