TLC120: Introduction to University Learning

This unit aims to prepare students for success at university by developing key theoretical understandings, academic skills, and confidence. The unit focuses on the culture and expectations of university, the nature of knowledge, and understanding yourself as a learner. Essential academic skills are developed, including writing, reading, note-making, referencing, critical thinking, time management and discussion skills. The unit commences in week 3 of semester and runs to week 14, and is based broadly in the social sciences and humanities.

Prerequisites	Nil. Information and enrolment sessions are conducted in the first two weeks of semester: contact the Student Learning Centre for further details. Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Notes	KATEC students should enrol in TLC020 Introduction to University Learning. Students enrolled in the Physical and Life Sciences should enrol in TLC123 Rocket Science: Academic Skills for Science Students.
