THE480: Science and Religion (Not available in 2010)

This unit looks at the relationship between science and religion in western culture which has been cooperative and confrontational. The unit will look at science and religion in the ancient world, the medieval world of Christianity and Islam, and the Enlightenment to the nineteenth century when there was a growing divide between the two worldviews. The second half of the unit will look at various issues in modern science and religion such as biology and medicine, and physics.
