SOC522: Social Research Methods

This unit is designed to develop students' understanding of a range of research techniques used in the social sciences, from action research to surveys, to experiments, and of relevant philosophical considerations. Students obtain first-hand experience with some of the methods. Lectures and workshops equip students to understand and critique social research studies. Extracts from research reports in sociology, psychology, education, community development, tourism and other social sciences are used to illustrate research strategies and to highlight philosophical issues.
