POL419: Special Topics in Politics and International Studies

For 600-level:
What does 'governance' mean? How and why might concepts and structures of governance be under pressure to change? Contemporary theories of public policy are replacing the central role of state institutions in determining policy outcomes with a greater appreciation of the role of non-state actors operating in varying relation to the state. Investigate emerging modes of governance within Asia; coalitions of interest influencing this transformation; and the implications for the politics of public service provision.
