POL302: Power of the Media and Public Interest

Analyses the interaction of politicians, policy makers and the media, their relative power, and the impact on public policy. At heart, it is a struggle for control. Who controls the news? The media? The government? How fully and in what ways do they shape public opinion? What can the public believe? Obtain a critical understanding of how news media shape public policy, and how policy-makers seek to influence the media. Students will work on cases from Australia and overseas.
