PHL216: Ancient Greek Ideas

This unit examines the origin and development of philosophical ideas at the beginning of the Western tradition. Students will read and discuss major works by the Presocratics, Plato, Aristotle, the Stoics and Neoplatonists on such themes as the origin of the cosmos, the place of the gods, atoms and elements, souls and bodies, theory of knowledge, and theory of value.
