PEC347: Aquatic Chemistry
This unit deals with the principles and applications of aquatic chemistry as they apply to environmental, industrial and biological systems. The following topics are covered: physicochemical conservation laws; the nature of water and aqueous solutions; chemical speciation; alkalinity and pH in natural waters; metal ion complexation by low-molecular ligands and by solid surfaces; precipitation and dissolution; oxidation and reduction; microbiological processes; environmental regulation of elements.

| Prerequisites | PEC201 Thermodynamics; PEC247 Physical and Inorganic Chemistry or PEC240 Analytical Chemistry.
