PEC306: Advanced Projects in Chemistry
Most laboratories undertaken as an undergraduate student are limited to a single four hour session. However, chemical investigations and research in the workplace are often conducted over days, or even months. Additionally, chemists may be required to search literature, develop new methods, and incorporate data from bioassays/industrial processes into their work. This project unit allows students to undertake a semester long research study under the guidance of a member of the Chemistry staff, providing a valuable experience.

| Contact Time | Minimum of 72 hours laboratory work, organised individually in consultation with Supervisor.

| Prerequisites | Students need to have completed a minimum of 28 points at Part II level.
It would be expected that students will undertake this unit in their final university year.
Students will be required to organise a suitable supervisor in the semester immediately prior to the one in which they wish to undertake the subject, and that supervisor must formally agree to the student's candidature.
Students must complete the Safety in Science prior to undertaking this unit.
The Safety in Science course is usually run in the week before semester begins but students are urged to communicate with their proposed supervisor on the precise timing.
All projects must be approved by the Chemistry Academic Chair prior to the beginning of semester.
